Alta chapel opening for the ski season
Beginning Sunday, Nov. 29, Mass will be celebrated every Sunday evening at 5 p.m. through the ski season at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Chapel in Alta, located directly across from Alta Lodge. The Eucharist has been celebrated at the ski resort during the ski season for more than 40 years.
'Perspectives' topic of Sunday sermon
"Changing Perspectives" is the subject of the Sunday, Nov. 29, sermon at the First Unitarian Church of Salt Lake, 569 S. 1300 East.
The sermon will be delivered at both the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. services by the Rev. Tom Goldsmith. For more information, go to www.slcuu.org.
Church to present 'Bethlehem' pageant
The "Journey to Bethlehem," an interactive, dramatic presentation from the Bible and the story of Jesus Christ's birth, is being presented again this year by the Mountain View Baptist Church, 2585 E. Highway 193, Layton.
It is free and open to the public.
It begins Thursday, Dec. 3, and runs through Sunday, Dec. 6. Times are 6:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
An auction after the presentation raises money for the community.
Widows, widowers invited to workshop
A workshop for widows and widowers will be held Saturday, Dec. 5, at the Pastoral Center, 27 C St., Salt Lake City. The seminar will offer participants the opportunity to explore how to start to rebuild a life without their spouse. For more information, call Veola Burchett at 801-328-8641, ext. 324. The cost is $10. Lunch is on your own.
Choirs to perform at holiday musical
"Sing Noel," a free interfaith Christmas musical, will be presented on Monday, Dec. 7, 7:30 p.m. at Skyline High School, 3251 E. 3760 South.
This will be the 10th annual such musical and includes choirs from Christ United Methodist Church Chancel Choir and Wesley Bell Ringers, Mount Olympus Presbyterian Church Celebration Singers, Our Saviour's Lutheran Church Music Ministries, Prophet Elias and Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church Combined Choirs and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints East Mill Creek Choir. People are encouraged to bring a can of food for Family Promise, an organization that helps homeless families.

Rabbi set to teach course on life, death
The Rohr Jewish Learning Institute has a fall course, SoulQuest: The Journey Through Life, Death and Beyond. Rabbi Benny Zippel of Chabad Lubavitch of Utah is teaching this course at the Chabad Community Center, 1760 S. 1100 East, for six Mondays, through Dec. 14.
