Prosecutors believe a West Valley man broke into an ex-girlfriend's home with a knife, threatening to kill everyone there.

Randy Ziegler, 58, allegedly kicked in the front door on Nov. 20, broke a glass interior door, hit the woman's friend in the head with a metal disc and tried to punch the woman, according to charging documents filed in the 3rd District Court Wednesday.

Charges say that he caused $800 worth of damage at the woman's house near 100 South and 300 East.

A police officer said he saw Ziegler leaving the house and then begin running when he had passed the officer. Ziegler didn't stop at the officer's command, and was caught after a short chase, court records say.

Ziegler has been charged with aggravated burglary, a first-degree felony, three counts of aggravated assault, a third-degree felony, criminal mischief and failure to stop at command of a law officer, class A misdemeanors. Bail was set at $100,000.
