It's time to recognize there is more than one type of DUI. "DUI-A" — or driving under the influence of alcohol — has been almost universally recognized. Lawmakers and law enforcement have rigorously "cracked down" on this problem.
Another form of DUI is "DUI-C" — driving under the influence of a cell phone.
Our Utah Legislature is very concerned about the rights of individuals, and rightly so. But as a society we have told drivers that they don't have the right to drive under the influence of alcohol because of the rights of others who use the roads. Isn't it time we tell drivers to put down their cell phones for the same reason?
