WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Head coach Jeff Judkins announced Wednesday that centers Jennifer Hamson and Morgan Bailey and guard Stephanie Rovetti have signed letters of intent to play basketball at BYU.

"We signed three outstanding players that will fit in nicely in our program," said coach Judkins. "All three bring athleticism, skills, are very coachable and will help us reach the goals and the success we want to achieve for our program."

A 6-7 center from Pleasant Grove and Pleasant Grove High School, Hamson was a 5A All-State honorable mention, averaging 16.5 points last season for the Vikings, and garnered Academic All-State honors as a sophomore and junior. She also played on the school's volleyball team that won the state championship in 2009. Hamson recorded 229 kills, 28 blocks and 15 digs last season. She will play both sports while attending BYU, where her mother, Tresa Spaulding Hamson, was a seven-time All-American basketball player who still holds several school records.

"Jennifer is the tallest player I've ever coached," Judkins said. "She will bring a dominate inside presence and is a good shooter."

Bailey is a 6-2 center from Orem, Utah, and preps at Timpanogos High School. She is the third-leading scorer in class 5A, averaging 16.1 points, 10.2 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game. Last year she made the Region 4 First Team and garnered 5A honorable mention all-state honors. Bailey also competes in track and field in the shot put for the Timberwolves.

"Morgan is a very physical player in the post and will compliment our inside game," added Judkins.

A 5-6 guard from Reno, Nevada and Reno High School, Rovetti averages 11.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and steals, and dishes out 2.8 assists per game. She helped guide her team to the finals of the state championships her sophomore season and last year the team advanced to the semifinals. As a junior, she garnered First Team All-Region and Second Team All-State honors. She also competes in track, receiving First Team All-State accolades, and was named Nevada Runner of the Year in 2009.

"Stephanie is a quick point guard, she's smart, has good court sense and is a great passer."

The three basketball standouts will begin their collegiate careers at BYU in the fall of 2010.

SWIMMING/DIVING: BYU's Brandon Watson and Tawni Jones have been named the Mountain West Conference men's and women's divers of the week, respectively.

Watson, a native of Riverton, Utah, won the 3-meter springboard at the Wildcat Diving Invitational in Tucson, Ariz. The sophomore collected a score of 369.80 in the preliminary round before tallying 366.00 points to win the finals. Watson also placed first in the consolation round of the 1-meter springboard, posting a final score of 333.75.

Jones, a product of Mesa, Ariz., earned two medals at the Wildcat Diving Invitational. The senior finished second on the 3-meter springboard with a score of 292.55, and placed third in the 1-meter after tallying 294.45 points.
