Missing Layton boy found safe in California
LAYTON — A missing 10-year-old Layton boy has been found safe in Whittier, Calif., and his mother has been taken into custody on a felony warrant.
Robert Pierce IV was reported missing Tuesday after he failed to return home from school at Whitesides Elementary. Layton Police issued a missing persons alert late Tuesday and indicated the boy, who may be the focal point of a custody dispute, may have been taken by his mother.
Layton Police Sgt. Jason Hinojosa said in a press release Wednesday night that Whittier Police took the boy's mother into custody and placed the boy in protective custody of the local child and family services agency.
The press release said the Utah Department of Child and Family Services is working with the California agency to have Robert Pierce returned to his father in Layton. The release said Layton police will seek extradition of the boy's mother back to Utah to face charges.
