Marijuana-growing operation found in Ogden apartment
OGDEN — Three men have been booked into the Weber County Jail after police say they discovered a small marijuana-growing operation in their apartment.
Officers were called to investigate a loud party at the Canyon Cove Apartments shortly after midnight Saturday. Inside, police discovered several intoxicated minors, said Ogden Police Lt. Scott Sangberg.
"They were finding kids in closets, in bedrooms and under beds," the lieutenant said.
As officers approached one of the rooms to search it, Marty Clark Connors, one of the apartment's tenants, allegedly pulled a rifle out of a nearby closet.
"When he did that, he got taken down and 'cuffed," Sangberg said. "I don't know why he pulled it. He didn't make any threatening moves with it, but it was really stupid for him to do it."
The officers entered the final room and pulled back a drape hung over a closet door. Sangberg said the closet's contents included marijuana plants, lamps, a heater, plant food, a marijuana bong, a scale and other drug paraphernalia.
"It was a small operation, but pretty sophisticated," Sangberg said. "It wasn't being grown so these guys could sit in there and smoke dope … it was for sale."
Connors, 24, and his roommates, Jamison Charles Duffy and Devin Richard Pennock, both 19, were booked into jail for investigation of cultivation and distribution of marijuana and alcohol-related offenses. One other adult was also booked into jail for investigation of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and nine others were issued alcohol-related citations.
