Weber State basketball: Wildcats commit 20 turnovers in narrow loss
SEATTLE — Charles Garcia, a 6-10, 230 pound junior center scored 27 points and grabbed 11 rebounds leading Seattle University to a 91-87 win over Weber State in the Emerald City.
Garcia was one of four Redhawk starters who scored in double figures. Seattle U. shot nearly 55 percent from the field hitting 35-of-64 shots. Their pressing defense forced 20 Wildcat turnovers which turned into 27 points for the home team.
"This was a great game for our kids to play in and we will learn a lot from what happened today," said WSU coach Randy Rahe. "I was pleased with our effort and hustle and I told them after if you play hard and leave it all out there and lose, then we don't have any excuses and that's what we did today."
The Wildcats jumped out to a 28-20 lead on a lay up by Lindsey Hughey at the 10:32 mark of the first half. But the Redhawks rallied back with a 14-2 scoring run over the next three and half minutes with Garcia scoring seven of those 14 points. Seattle then put together an 8-1 scoring run to end the half and take a 48-41 lead into the locker room.
