Dixie State campus briefs
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: The Dixie State College women's basketball team opened its 2009-10 regular-season campaign on the road against the No. 5-ranked Fort Lewis College. The Skyhawks defeated the Red Storm 68-54 at Durango, Colo.
In the first half, the Red Storm (0-1) was plagued by the shooting bug, only shooting 28.6 percent from field. Fort Lewis seemed to have it together from the start, shooting 42.9 percent in the first half to lead 31-23.
In the second half, DSC seemed to get in rhythm and cut the Fort Lewis lead to one point on a Veronica Siqueiros 3-pointer with 17:34 left. But DSC could not get over the hump and the Skyhawks built the lead back to a game-high 15 points.
Siqueiros led the Red Storm with a game-high 18 points.
