With 2:29 left in the third quarter and the Thunderbirds clinging to just an eight-point advantage, Ofa Latu broke the game open when he picked off a Steve Bate pass attempt and returned it 32 yards for the Timpview score. The T-Birds went on to win their fourth consecutive state title.

The Thunderbirds have now played Springville 29 times and lead the series 18-11, winning five straight and seven of the last eight. Timpview claimed its fourth straight 4A championship while the Red Devils appeared in the title game for the first time since winning the trophy in 1985.
