High school volleyball: All-stars to compete

The state's best senior volleyball players will gather at Salt Lake Community College today for the annual Utah Volleyball Coaches Association's Senior All-Star matches.

The 1A vs. 2A game begins at 9:30 a.m. After that, the 3A, 4A and 5A all-stars are divided into four teams, with one game played at 11:30 a.m. and the final match at 1:30 p.m.

The players are honored with plaques, as are coaches of the winners. The public is welcome to attend. The cost is $2 for adults and $1 for students.

The 1A Senior All-Stars are: Amanda Bagley, Piute; Shelby Millett, Piute; Marci Jensen, Piute; Rebekah Nellermoe, ICS; Ellie Barber, Christian Heritage; Laramie Riggs, Christian Heritage; Britani Nelson, Wayne; Shelby Taylor, Panguitch; Chelsie Barney, Panguitch; Breanna Nichols, Dugway; Lisa Kireiev, Salt Lake Lutheran.

The 1A coach of the year is Troy Norris, who led the Panguitch Bobcats to the 1A title.

The 2A senior all-stars: Jasmine Porter, LCA; Kristine Reddington, LCA; Megan Peterson, South Summit; McKenzie Woolstenhulme, South Summit; McKenzee Murdock, North Summit; Hayley Richins, North Summit; Megan Clove, Enterprise; Janessa Farrer, South Sevier; Savannah Cooper, Kanab; Briona Laws, San Juan; Alyssa Simpson, San Juan; Mckenzie Robins, North Sevier.

The 2A coach of the year is Joy Nakaishi, Layton Christian, who guided the Eagles to the state championship.

The 3A senior all-stars are: Kallie McKown, Judge; Sekola Falemaka, Judge; Angela Blazzard, Morgan; Kara Cotter, Hurricane; Lindsay Quilter, Hurricane; Lindsay Brandley, North Sanpete; Shelby Earl, North Sanpete; Shyanne Isom, North Sanpete; Andrea Christensen, Richfield; Nikki Sim, Juan Diego; Joy Malone, Carbon.

The 3A coach of the year is Rickie Stewart, North Sanpete, who led the Hawks to a 3A title.

The 4A senior all-stars are: Jenny Scott, Springville; Erin Redd, Spanish fork; Kylie Schofield, Spanish Fork; Caitlin Hibbert, Bountiful; Jennika Wright, Dixie; Jaimee Clark, Dixie; Kave Leaatoa, Highland; Sela Matemate, Highland; Maline Vaitai, Olympus; Miranda Parkinson, Lehi.

The 4A coach of the year is Alana Parker, Snow Canyon, whose team took the state 4A title.

The 5A senior all-stars are: Clotile Harris, Hunter; Danica Mendivil, Pleasant Grove; Jennifer Hamsen, Pleasant Grove; Danielle Downs, Davis; Emily Atkinson, Cottonwood; Candace Clifford, Northridge; Claire Leiser, Skyline; Makenzie Moea'I, American Fork; Cami Richan, Lone Peak; Chloe Jarema, Lone Peak; Lori Mendenhall, Brighton; Taeja Afalava, Bingham.

The 5A coach of the year is Jamie Schapper, Pleasant Grove, who earned her first state title with the Vikings' victory.
