Students in our schools are not safe from predators. But they could be more safe if students, parents, faculty and staff were more vigilant in reporting flirting, touching, texting — or any other unprofessional behaviors toward students — to the principal. And principals, take seriously any concerns in regards to inappropriate behavior by an adult toward any student.
I once reported inappropriate behavior that my child had observed between a teacher and a student. I called a month later asking what the result was, and the principal wasn't even sure he had confronted the teacher. Only when I sent a letter was action taken.
We can save many students and keep teachers from destroying their careers and reputations if we are willing to voice our observations and concerns.
