Mike Denison (Readers' Forum, Nov. 19) thinks that we should "never say never" on temple marriage for gays, citing that the LDS church changed its stance on the blacks and the priesthood back in 1978, thus opening the doors to temple marriage for our black brothers and sisters. There is no similarity between these two situations. Blacks were never excommunicated or disfellowshipped for being black. While having homosexual desires is not in and of itself necessarily a sin, homosexual activity is looked upon as serious sin and can result in the gay person being disfellowshipped or excommunicated. There has never been any hint of church acceptance of homosexual activity, let alone gay marriage.
