SPANISH FORK — A recount in the close Spanish Fork City Council race between Keir Scoubes and Seth Sorensen has confirmed Scoubes as the winner.

Sorensen, a former city councilman, asked for a recount when he fell 14 votes shy of Scoubes in the Nov. 3 election. Following a recount, Scoubes picked up two votes and Sorensen gained five, making Scoubes' final margin of victory 11 votes — 1,711 to 1,700.

Scoubes will join the council in January, along with Councilman Steve Leifson, who was re-elected for a second term. Leifson was the top vote-getter among council candidates with 1,890.

Councilman G. Wayne Andersen, who defeated former Councilman Sherman Huff for the mayor's seat by more than 400 votes, expressed disappointment in the 21 percent voter turnout. The City Council canvassed the final vote at its Tuesday meeting.

"I'm a little disappointed," Andersen said. "Next time around, take it seriously and get out and vote."
