Salt Lake City bars just got a new mixer.
The City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved a request from a Marmalade tavern owner to allow watering holes — on a case-by-case basis — to serve hard liquor in the two mixed-use zones in the city's northwest corner.
"This property has been a bar," Councilman Luke Garrott said of Jam, 751 N. 300 West. "This will not degrade the neighborhood. … This area was rezoned with the idea that this sort of business would be provided."
Councilman Eric Jergensen said he was still concerned about negative impacts bars might have on the single-family homes in those zones but said he believed the conditions a bar owner must meet before being approved by the Planning Commission would mitigate parking, noise and garbage concerns.
