Park City mulling anti-bias ordinances
Park City could be Utah's second municipality to consider ordinances to protect renters and employees from discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender.
Newly re-elected Mayor Dana Williams brought the issue up at a recent City Council meeting after hearing news reports about a first-of-its-kind anti-discrimination ordinance passed in Salt Lake City. The capital city legislation has been supported by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
"I was proud of Salt Lake for doing what they did, and the council agreed unanimously to take a look at it and see if that's something Park City would do," Williams said.
Already, the city has internal rules against employee discrimination based on sexual preference, he said.
Beyond local ordinances, Williams said he would favor state anti-discrimination laws.
