Ogden man arrested in 2003 kidnapping
A convicted sex offender wanted in the kidnapping of a 12-year-old boy in 2003 has been arrested.
Brent Dee Unsworth, 41, was taken into custody by Adult Probation and Parole agents on a warrant.
Unsworth developed a relationship with his alleged victim after the boy's parents rented out the basement of their Ogden home to the man in 2003, said Ogden Police Lt. Scott Conley. Police say Unsworth then took the boy out of school without his parents' permission.
"He takes him to Salt Lake — to another residence — buys him some clothing, buys him food, takes some photographs of him, brings him back to school," Conley said. "All it indicates in the report was that (Unsworth) talked (the boy) into opening his shirt and taking some pictures, which made the youth uncomfortable."
Unsworth disappeared shortly after being charged with child kidnapping in February 2004. He was found last week by an AP&P team searching for him because of his non-compliance with the state's sex-offender registry law, said Utah Department of Corrections spokesman Steve Gehrke.
Unsworth was living under an alias in Salt Lake City, Gehrke said. He was arrested without incident and booked into the Weber County Jail.
In 1991, Unsworth pleaded guilty in 3rd District Court to three counts of child sex abuse, a second-degree felony. He served about four years in prison and five years on parole before being discharged from supervision in 2002, Gehrke said.
