For the first time this season, but for the third time in his career, BYU junior guard Jimmer Fredette has been named the Mountain West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week.
Fredette, a first-team all-MWC player last season and the conference's preseason player of the year, opened the season by scoring a game-high 25 points in the Cougars' 70-60 win last Friday over Bradley. The 6-foot-2 combo guard from Glen Falls, N.Y., was 6-of-14 shooting, and added five rebounds and four assists in 37 minutes. He scored 16 of his 25 points in the second half, and also made 12-of-14 from the free-throw line in the second half. In the final five minutes, when BYU pulled away for good, Fredette hit 6-of-6 free throws.
Fredette was the MWC player of the week twice last season as a sophomore.
