Keys may help identify body
The Weber County Sheriff's Office hopes a pair of keys will help identify a badly decomposed body found in Ogden Canyon Saturday.
Archery hunters were tracking game off the trail along the ridgeline above the waterfall in the canyon just before noon Saturday when they found human remains, said Capt. Klint Anderson, spokesman for the sheriff's office. A search and rescue team recovered the body, which had apparently been there several months.
A knapsack that contained clothing and a set of keys, but no identification, was found with the body. Two of those keys, one to a Kia and the other to a post office box, may help officers determine the identity.
The remains are male and most likely an adult, although the age is not yet known. The medical examiner's office was conducting an autopsy Sunday and Anderson said he hopes that will yield more information about not only cause of death, but also a physical description to help with identification.
The only open missing person case in Weber County right now is a woman, so they are canvassing other police agencies up and down the Wasatch Front to see if they can match one of their cases, he said.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Weber County Sheriff's Office at 801-629-8221.
