Dixie State College's regional Peace Officer Standards and Training Academy will accept applications until Dec. 14 for evening training courses from students interested in a career in law enforcement.

The courses will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday at Dixie's Hurricane Education Center, starting Jan. 11. According to program director David Holm, the courses are designed for individuals who are interested in law enforcement but currently working full-time jobs.

The academy includes two parts. Special function officer training, a 193-hour program, serves as a prerequisite to the other portion, a 360-hour block for law enforcement officers.

Those interested are required to pass the National Peace Officer Selection test, given at Dixie's testing center, as well as be 21 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent. A physical test will be given twice throughout the course. More information can be found online at new.dixie.edu/post.
