Police arrest 2 men in October break-in
SANDY — Two men who police say committed a home-invasion robbery because one of the men didn't like the work the victim had done on a computer were arrested at gunpoint late Thursday.
The Joint Criminal Apprehension Team surrounded the home of one of the men, near 2200 East and 9800 South, and surprised him as he opened his garage.
"He said he heard some noise, someone going through his gate, which was us," said JCAT supervisory deputy U.S. marshal Jim Phelps. "As he opened the garage door … we really put the fear into him."
The man immediately threw his fully loaded handgun that he was holding under his car. Richard Raymond, 28, was arrested without further incident. In addition to the gun Raymond threw, deputies found a second loaded handgun and a bulletproof vest inside, Phelps said.
A second man, Ashley Alford, 29, was arrested at his home while he was lying on his couch. Both men were booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of aggravated burglary.
Police accuse them of breaking into a West Jordan man's home on Oct. 30. The homeowner had done some type of computer work for a family member of one of the suspects, said West Jordan Police Sgt. Dan Roberts. But the man apparently believed the quality of the work wasn't very good.
Several items from the home were taken during the robbery. Some of those possessions were recovered at Raymond's house, Phelps said.
