PROVO — The Student Athletic Building at Brigham Young University was evacuated briefly Friday following a minor hazardous-materials incident.
Shortly before 8 a.m., a custodian found a small pool of liquid on the floor in a training room, said BYU Police Lt. Arnold Lemmon. When the janitor attempted to clean up the spill, there was a chemical reaction that created a small chlorine-gas cloud, Lemmon said.
Few students were in the building at the time of the incident, and no one was injured.
A hazardous-materials team with Provo Fire and Rescue responded to the campus, cleaned up the spill and aired out the building.
The evacuation lasted about 30 minutes, Lemmon said.
