Mom and 9-year-old killed in car wreck
CEDAR CITY — A Delta woman and her 9-year-old daughter were killed Thursday following a single-vehicle rollover crash on I-15 in Iron County.
Joanna G. Anderson, 32, was driving south in her Suburban around 7:30 p.m. when the sport-utility vehicle swerved into the median for unknown reasons, the Utah Highway Patrol said. The vehicle rolled several times.
Anderson was taken to Valley View Medical Center in Cedar City, where she later died. Troopers said her daughter, Kayla Anderson, died at the scene.
Three other children, Emily Anderson, 8; Whitney Anderson, 5; and Megan Anderson, 2; were also taken to the hospital. Emily Anderson suffered a collapsed lung, while Whitney Anderson sustained a bruised lung and broken wrist. Troopers were not sure what injuries, if any, Megan Anderson suffered.
Troopers did not immediately know how Joanna Anderson and the other three children in the vehicle were related to each other. They said speed, weather and alcohol or drug use do not appear to be factors in the crash, and everyone in the SUV was wearing a seat belt.
The crash is under investigation.
