Man's car stolen, then he is stabbed
SOUTH SALT LAKE — First he lost his car, then he got stabbed.
The series of events began Wednesday about 2:30 a.m. when a man sitting in his car at a Maverik convenience store, 514 W. 3900 South, got out to talk to his passenger, who had just entered the store, said South Salt Lake Police Capt. Jack Carruth.
The man left his car running while he went inside. During the brief time he walked in, a person in the car next to his jumped out of his vehicle, got into the man's car and drove off, Carruth said.
The car owner came out of the store just as his car was speeding off. He spotted the driver and recognized him as being someone who was inside the vehicle next to his, Carruth said.
He confronted the remaining people in the car and got into a fight with one of the occupants. The man was winning the fight until another man in the car tried to help his friend by stabbing the car's owner with a knife, Carruth said.
The car's owner suffered a minor cut and was treated for minor injuries at the scene.
The search for both the stolen car and the man who took it continued Wednesday.
