LEHI — One person was flown to a local hospital in serious to critical condition after an accident on I-15.

Utah Highway Patrol troopers said a semitrailer was in the far right lane as the driver tried to slow down for traffic, but the semitrailer ended up rear-ending a car. The smaller vehicle was pushed off the right shoulder of the road into some trees. The car's male driver was extricated from the vehicle and flown to University Hospital in Salt Lake City about 7:30 p.m., UHP trooper Cameron Roden said.

The southbound freeway lanes were closed near the 1200 West exit in Lehi for 30 minutes so the helicopter could land. Two of the southbound lanes were reopened, but traffic had backed up at least a mile to the north. Roden said northbound traffic was also slowed following a crash two miles north of the truck-car accident. That accident blocked the left lane, and there were minor injuries.
