Las Vegas police raid Hells Angels sites
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Six Hells Angels motorcycle club locations were raided Wednesday in an investigation of a brawl that left two people with stab wounds at a Las Vegas wedding chapel nearly a year ago, police said.
There were no confrontations or injuries when heavily armed police SWAT and intelligence unit investigators served warrants at dawn at sites that included a Hells Angels clubhouse about five miles northwest of downtown Las Vegas, police Lt. Dave Logue said.
No arrests were made.
Man guilty of killing TV anchorwoman
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — A man was convicted of capital murder Wednesday for beating an Arkansas TV anchorwoman so brutally that her face was shattered and she never regained consciousness before dying five days later.
Curtis Lavelle Vance could face the death penalty for the assault on Anne Pressly at her Little Rock bungalow. The same jury that convicted him reconvened to hear testimony about whether he should be put to death or imprisoned without the possibility of parole.
Vance, 29, of Marianna, was also convicted of residential burglary along with rape and theft of property in the Oct. 20, 2008, attack.
N.J. quadriplegic is allowed have guns
SOMERVILLE, N.J. (AP) — A New Jersey judge says a quadriplegic blocked from buying a gun to go hunting has the right to bear arms even though he will have to use a wheelchair mount to use the firearm.
Manville's police chief had rejected James Cap's application last year, citing safety concerns. The borough attorney says the safety issues could only be resolved by a judge.
A judge ruled Tuesday that the 46-year-old is eligible for a firearms ID, which is required to buy a gun. The judge addressed the safety issues by requiring Cap to have qualified people assist him with weapons.
CDC now says 4,000 swine flu deaths
ATLANTA (AP) — Federal health officials now say that 4,000 or more Americans likely have died from swine flu — about four times the estimate they've been using.
The new, higher figure was first reported by The New York Times. It includes deaths caused by complications related to swine flu, including pneumonia and bacterial infections. Until now, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had conservatively put the U.S. swine flu death count at more than 1,000. Officials said this week they're working on an even more accurate calculation.
The CDC says "many millions" of Americans have caught the pandemic flu virus since it first appeared in April.
