Mayor declares 'Go Purple Day' for TCU Horned Frogs

Horned Frog fever has reached City Hall.

Mayor Mike Moncrief has declared Friday "Go Purple Day" and encouraged residents to wear purple on the eve of No. 4 Texas Christian University's football game against the No. 16 Utah Utes.

Several Fort Worth landmarks, including the Avenue of Lights on West Lancaster Avenue, the Chesapeake Energy headquarters and downtown buildings, will illuminate purple lights this weekend.

TCU, Utah coaches pour on the praise

Let the compliment war begin.

Gary Patterson and Utah coach Kyle Whittingham took turns praising the other at their respective press conferences Tuesday.

Here's a tit-for-tat dialogue between the two coaches and the respect they have for the other's program as they prepare for the 6:30 pm. Saturday Mountain West Conference "Showdown in Cowtown," as Patterson referred to it Tuesday.

TCU, up to No. 4, knows what's at stake against Utah

This is going to be huge.

The TCU football team plays one of the most important regular-season games in school history Saturday as reigning Mountain West Conference champion Utah comes to town for a 6:30 p.m. showdown at Amon G. Carter Stadium.

The Utes (8-1, 5-0) are riding a six-game winning streak and seek to dash the Horned Frogs' hopes of a MWC title. TCU has lost to Utah three consecutive years, including a 13-10 heartbreaker at Utah last season.

But more than a MWC title is on the line.

Utah freshman QB eager to meet TCU defense

Utah true freshman quarterback Jordan Wynn doesn't have much collegiate experience to draw on, so when he described his thoughts on Saturday's game against No. 4 TCU, it was the most honest thing he could have said.

Utah starting quarterback Jordan Wynn has played in only two games this season.

"This is the biggest game of my life," he said.
