Hike of the week: Parrish Creek Trail — Davis County
From the parking lot, the trail snakes up the mountainside and quickly arrives at the Shoreline Trail. The Shoreline Trail runs north and south and is a wider path. Cross this trail and continue straight up the mountain. The trail switchbacks through tall grass and sagebrush as it turns toward Parrish Creek. Overlooking Parrish Creek you hear water flowing and discover a small waterfall making this pleasant sound. From here, the trail makes several long flowing switchbacks across the grassy mountainside. At 1.47 miles the trail makes its final switchback overlooking Parrish Creek. This is a beautiful spot to relax and catch your breath before you leave the area. The trail turns south and snakes over toward Centerville Canyon. At the canyon rim there is one switchback up to mountain mahoganies. As you head for the ridge between Parrish Creek and Centerville Canyon, the trail smooths out in the trees. At 2.26 miles you arrive at the ridgeline to terrific views of Davis County, the Great Salt Lake and beyond. With so many inviting spots for lunch, choosing one might be your biggest decision of the day. Pick a spot and enjoy!
Directions: From Interstate 15 take Centerville exit 319. Go east on Parrish Lane. At 700 East turn left at the "T." Follow the narrow road to the trailhead.
