SANDY — A convenience store robbery turned out poorly for one man who ended up behind bars Tuesday.

Police received a call around 9 p.m. about a suspicious man at the Sinclair gas station at 153 W. 9000 South, and upon arriving, one officer noticed a man "trying to hide something" as he got into a vehicle.

The man had allegedly threatened the gas station clerk with a knife and asked for money but grew impatient and grabbed cigarettes before bolting out the store, said Sandy Police Sgt. Justin Chapman.

Police pulled over the suspect vehicle, noticing that an object had been thrown out of the car before it stopped. Police found what they believe is the man's knife lying on the side of the road.

A 23-year-old American Fork man was arrested for investigation of robbery.

"He didn't even manage to keep the cigarettes," Chapman said.
