I am not making this up! Under the recently passed health insurance bill, failure to buy health insurance or pay the alternative tax could be a felony. Under section 7203, failure to buy health insurance or pay the health insurance tax is a misdemeanor punishable by a $25,000 fine or one year in jail. Under section 7201, willful failure to pay is a felony punishable by a $250,000 fine and five years in jail.

If you do not submit a certificate of compliance with your tax return you will be assumed to be in violation.

Welcome to the brave new world of Obama-Pelosi socialist medicine.
