Cougars weren't angels
University of New Mexico women's soccer player Elizabeth Lambert has been rightly criticized for her behavior during last week's match against BYU. But it's unfair to cast all the blame on her and ignore the bad behavior of the BYU players. Video clips of that match, which are available on YouTube, clearly show BYU players provoking Ms. Lambert. Before Ms. Lambert strikes a BYU player in the back, the BYU player can be seen putting a sharp elbow into Ms. Lambert's stomach. And just before Ms. Lambert pulled another BYU player to the ground by her ponytail, the BYU player purposely backed into Ms. Lambert and yanked at her shorts.
I don't write to condone the New Mexico player's behavior but to make it clear she wasn't playing against a bunch of angels.
