Mini's Retro Cafe, 12 E. 800 South, is hosting a grand opening Nov. 13, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Located next to Mini's cupcakery, the restaurant features vintage furniture and "blast from the past" dishes, such as Pigs in a Blanket, deviled eggs, cottage cheese with pineapple rings, and mac & cheese with smoked gouda. Lunches range from $8-$9.50. Breakfasts include cream of wheat, oatmeal, and house-made cinnamon rolls and croissants (minisretrocafe.com or 801-363-0608).
Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar restaurants will honor U.S. veterans and active-duty military today with a free meal for Veterans Day. Those who present proof of current or former U.S. military service will have their choice of one of six entrees.
Wolf Creek Utah is offering free Thanksgiving Dinner with lodging packaged over the Thanksgiving holiday. The $550 package includes two nights in a three-bedroom condominium, a holiday dinner for up to eight people from Harley & Buck's, and free skiing for kids at Wolf Creek Utah Ski Resort. Also, for every lodging reservation booked over Thanksgiving, Wolf Creek Utah will donate meals to the Ogden Rescue Mission (www.wolfcreekutah.com or call 801-745-3787). Ogden Valley locals can also order their Thanksgiving dinner from Harley and Buck's for $99, or $49 for ham or turkey only (801-745-2060).
Harmons stores are sponsoring their annual Thanksgiving Turkey Drive for the Utah Food Bank and are selling $10 pre-filled Food for Families bags full of essential items that can be donated to the food bank, as well.
Metropolitan restaurant won first place in the University of Utah's Paint the Town Red contest, where downtown businesses decorated their storefront in support of the Utes. Through Nov. 15, Metropolitan is offering a free order of special chicken wings during lunch for guests who mention the Utes or have a ticket stub from the Nov. 7 Utes football game.
Roosters Brewing Co., Beehive Cheese Co. and Soul and Bones BBQ are partnering for the fourth annual "Birds, Bees and Bones," cheese, food and micro-brew pairing, Nov. 21, 6-9 p.m., at Union Station's Grand Lobby at 2501 Wall Ave. Tickets are $35, with funds raised going to the Ronald McDonald Family Room at Ogden Regional Medical Center (www.beehivecheese.com/ or www.roostersbrewingco.com.)
