High school sports: Preps of the week
MAKENZIE MOEA'I, American Fork, volleyball
This four-year starter wants success for her teammates as much as she wants it for herself.
"Her desire to be a great volleyball player drives her to find ways to be better on the court to help her team," said Danette Moea'i, American Fork head volleyball coach and Makenzie's mom. "She is focused and determined to do her job on the court."
In her senior season, Makenzie Moea'i earned 342 kills, 50 aces and 154 digs.
"She is strong, versatile and an aggressive outside hitter, along with an intense defensive player," said the American Fork coach.
TANA VEA, Juan Diego, football
Had a fantastic outing last Friday in leading the Soaring Eagle to a 28-3 victory over Cedar in the 3A quarterfinals.
The senior carried the ball 15 times for 149 yards and two touchdowns as Juan Diego methodically worked the ball down the field against a stingy Cedar defense.
Vea has rushed for 795 yards and 13 touchdowns this year, and he'll need similar production this week if Juan Diego is going to knock off Wasatch in the 3A semifinals.
"Tana is a big, physical kind of kid who runs people over," said Juan Diego coach John Colosimo.
