Entries deadline in young writers contest is Nov. 20

The annual Deseret News John Hughes Young Writers Contest is seeking entries through 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20.

Open to all juniors and seniors in Utah's public and private schools, the essay contest offers a winning cash prize of $1,000. Second place is worth $500 and third place $250. This event seeks to showcase the talents of young Utah writers.

This year's theme is "A gift I'd like to give." Entries must be a nonfiction essay based on personal experience, observation or opinion, with a 1,000-word limit.

All entries must be typed and delivered, mailed or electronically submitted to the Deseret News.

Winners will be announced in mid-December and will be published in the Deseret News.

Mail or deliver entries to: Deseret News, Young Writers Contest, 30 E. 100 South, P.O. Box 1257, Salt Lake City, UT 84110.
