Canyons chief is named law group's v.p.
Canyons School District Superintendent David S. Doty has been named first vice president of the national Education Law Association.
Doty was nominated by the board of directors and elected by the general membership to the post. He is in line to become the association's president in 2011.
"The Canyons Board of Education is pleased that Dr. Doty has been elected to serve in this national leadership role," said Canyons Board of Education President Tracy Scott Cowdell. "His selection speaks to his many capabilities and talents, as well as to the overall caliber of the leader we have at the helm of Utah's newest school district."
Doty is currently a member of the association's board of directors. He has worked 15 years as a school law attorney in Utah and South Carolina. He served as assistant commissioner and director of Policy Studies for the Utah System of Higher Education from 2005 to August 2008, when he was appointed Canyons superintendent.
