MEN'S BASKETBALL: One night after a loss in exhibition action to Westminster College, the Dixie State men's hoops team turned a 180 and used a balanced attack to beat Rocky Mountain College of Montana 78-64 on Saturday night in Salt Lake City.
Dixie State (1-1 in exhibitions) had 12 different players get into the score column while combining to shoot 55.6 percent (25-of-45) from the floor.
Andy Palmer scored the first five points of the game in DSC's 7-0 opening run. Palmer capped off the first half with a three pointer to give the Storm a 37-24 edge at the half.
In the second half, Dixie State's lead never dipped below 11 points. The team iced the game by hitting 13 of 15 free throws in the final eight minutes.
Palmer led all scorers with 21 points on hitting eight of nine attempts from the floor. Tom Whitehead scored in double figures for the second straight game tallying 11 points.
The Red Storm wrap-up the exhibition season next Friday at home against Whittier (Calif.) College at 7:30 p.m.
