ROY — A 9-year-old boy who was shot as he walked down the street with his grandfather Saturday afternoon was still in critical condition Sunday morning. Police said they were investigating whether alcohol contributed to the accidental shooting.
The shot was fired just before 5 p.m. from inside a mobile home near 3800 South and 1900 West in the Monte Vista Mobile Home Park, police said. The 12-gauge shotgun blast sailed through a window and struck the child.
The North Ogden boy, identified by police Sunday as Braden Schroeder, suffered multiple injuries and was flown to Primary Children's Medical Center.
Roy police are questioning David L. Dunlap, 28, in connection with the shooting, but he has not been arrested, Sgt. Danny Hammon said.
"We are investigating further to determine to what degree alcohol played a role in the negligent discharge of the firearm," Hammon said.
Police will screen the case for possible charges with Weber County prosecutors on Monday, he said.
