WOMEN'S SOCCER: With their 2-1 victory over Notre Dame de Namur University in St. George, the Red Storm clinched their first Pacific West Conference Championship.

Dixie State (14-4, 13-1) got on the scoreboard in the 21st minute of the match when on a Camille Peterson corner kick to Mikala Wilkes headed the ball into the top of the net to give the Red Storm a 1-0 lead.

In the 52nd minute of the match, Dixie State scored again off a corner kick when Whitley Davis found Carly Haycock's head to give DSC a 2-0 lead. On both goals, DSC executed the corner kick to perfection and mirrored each other.

In the 72nd minute Notre Dame de Namur's (7-11-1, 7-6-1) Samantha Paetz scored on a 40 yard shot from the right side of the field. NDNU cut the lead to 2-1, but could not manage another goal.

The Red Storm outshot NDNU 13-7 and won the corner kick margin 4-1. The Argonauts did manage to commit more fouls 11-5. For DSC, Tonya Smith had four saves in goal.

With the victory and the championship DSC earns the PacWest automatic qualifier for the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championships that begins on November 13. This coming after finishing second in 2007 and 2008 to BYU-Hawaii, Dixie State will find out their opponent and location on Monday November 9.

MEN'S SOCCER: The Red Storm ended their 2009 campaign tonight with a 2-1 loss to Notre Dame de Namur University.

Notre Dame de Namur (10-9-2, 10-2-2) tied for second place, jumped to an early lead when Cristobal Montes scored in the 25th minute.

Moments later, the Red Storm scored when Jordan Roylance crossed to the center and found Brent Knoblauch who scored from 30 yards out.

Both schools had several opportunities in the match to score, but could not capitalize on them. Until the 83rd minute, that's when Chris Arceo crossed from the baseline and found a streaking Luis Astorga for the go ahead goal.

The Argonauts outshot DSC 11-10 and had a 9-2 advantage on corner kicks. DSC goalie Tyler McAninch had 3 saves in goal.

Dixie State (6-11-1, 4-10) in only their second year of competition finished in 7th place in the Pacific West Conference.
