SLCC Bruins edge Eagles, nab postseason spot
The top-seeded Salt Lake Community College Bruins fought their way to a five set win over College of Southern Idaho, 25-18, 25-14, 22-25, 22-25, 15-11, and a NJCAA National Tournament berth.
Freshmen Ame White had her best game of the season, finishing with 17 kills, 15 digs and committing only three errors the entire match. Erika Charry controlled the middle of the floor with nine block assists to go along with eight kills. Outside hitter Shelbi Zaldain connected on 16 kills and Lakell Havens hit .455 to finish with 14 kills and four block assists. Setter Catalina Charry finished with a season-high 54 set assists and 14 defensive digs. Salt Lake's blockers compiled a season-high 13.5 team blocks and held the tough Southern Idaho hitters to a .178 hitting percentage.
No. 4 SLCC (27-7) will now wait to find out what seed it will receive at the NJCAA National Tournament held on November 19-20 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
TCU 3, UTAH 1: At Fort Worth, Texas, senior outside hitter Cinthia Silva hit a team-high 13 kills and Karolina Bartkowiak came up with 10th double-double this season, but the University of Utah volleyball team dropped a four-set decision Saturday at TCU (25-21, 24-26, 25-20, 25-7).
Utah (15-9, 8-4 MWC) was led by Silva, who posted her third consecutive double-figure-kill match with a team-high 13 kills. The Sao Paulo, Brazil, player has led or tied for the team lead in kills four times this year.
Bartkowiak came up with her 10th career double, all coming this season. The Aurora, Ill., native had 11 kills and 10 digs.

NEW MEXICO 3, BYU 0: At Albuquerque, New Mexico (18-8, 9-5 MWC) brought its best game to the court Saturday to take down the BYU women's volleyball team (12-12, 6-6 MWC) in three sets (23-25, 17-25, 23-25).
Sophomore Christie Carpenter led the Cougars in kills with 14, hitting at .407 percent and chalking up six digs. Senior rightside hitter Kayla Walker had 11 kills and six digs while freshman Nicole Warner had eight kills at .636 percent. Libero Morgan Lloyd Sorensen led the back row with nine digs.
SUU 3, CENTENARY 0: At Cedar City, the Thunderbirds recorded a 25-16, 28-26, 25-14 victory over the Centenary Ladies — their second straight sweep. The win moves the T-Birds to 8-18 on the year and 6-10 in conference play, while Centenary drops to 4-22 and 0-15 in Summit League play. "This was a great weekend for us," head coach DebbyBaker said after the match.
ROCKY MOUNTAIN 3, WESTMINSTER 1: At Salt Lake City, the Griffins struggled offensively in the 25-14, 25-17, 23-25, 25-19 loss, managing just 45 kills in the four sets. The loss drops the Griffins to 9-19 overall and 6-8 in the Frontier Conference.
Westminster celebrated the careers of seniors Talita Kresser, Whitney Roseborough, and Kelsey Schaufler prior to the match. The three were playing in their final home game as Griffins.
Ericka Evans led the Griffins with 14 kills and hit .180 in the contest.
