Five questions for Real Salt Lake's Kyle Beckerman
Question: You guys didn't celebrate too much on the field after Thursday's series-clinching win at Columbus, why?
Answer: It felt good, but it wasn't that huge for me really. I want to do more, been here before. It was a start, but when we got in the playoffs we expected to win and we thought we could win it all. So this is just the first step, it's a tough one.
Question: Your win at Columbus was the biggest road win in franchise history, and amazingly you did it by rallying from a two-goal deficit. Where did that type of performance come from?
Answer: Even when we were going through the road struggles all year, and if we didn't make the playoffs, one of my main things was we're close to taking that next step to becoming a really good team. A lot of the games this year on the road we've had chances to get into the game ... and we haven't been able to do that. Last night we just executed.
Question: You've been to four conference finals in your MLS career and lost all four times. How badly do you want to get to the MLS Cup this year?
Answer: I want to get to this dance. If we can get there, we've got to win it because you never know when you're going to get back. It's a big opportunity for us. It really is.
Question: Do you expect there to be many changes this offseason with Real Salt Lake after narrowly making the playoffs once again?
Answer: I don't think there will be that many changes. I think we'll stick to the same thing and keep building the core. The main impact players on this team are young, have a lot of years ahead of them so it's something we can keep building on. To do this two years in a row it builds some confidence and now we have some experience and now we can ride that.
Question: How would you describe Jason Kreis' evolvement as a head coach in Major League Soccer?
Answer: He's really intense, he's always been as a player. He's gotten better at not getting as emotional in games, letting it all work itself out. I remember in years past he got really into the games and really emotional before the game was over and really mad at us, and we turned it around. He'd be so up and down in the game, he was breaking down after the game. I see he's getting better at that. He's getting better at preparing us for games week in and week out. He's growing with us I think. He's part of that core we're trying to build.
