VERNAL — A Uintah County woman has been ordered to serve nearly a year in jail for shooting at another vehicle that tried to pass her while she was driving drunk.
During a sentencing hearing Tuesday in 8th District Court, Terri Lannette Gray was ordered to serve 300 days in jail for two counts of attempted manslaughter, a third-degree felony, and one count of DUI, a class B misdemeanor.
Gray, 48, received credit for the 124 days she has already spent in jail. She will spend three years on probation once she is released from jail and must pay a $2,500 fine.
Gray was stopped by a Roosevelt police officer on June 16 after other motorists reported that she was driving recklessly on U.S. 40. The officer said he detected an odor of alcohol on the woman's breath and said she told him she believed she was in Arizona, according to court records.
Other witnesses told the officer they heard a loud bang as one of the cars passed Gray's vehicle. The car had an apparent bullet hole in its passenger-side door.
Gray failed field sobriety tests, police said, and was arrested. During a search of her car, the officer said he found a .38-caliber revolver with four live rounds and one spent casing in the chamber.
Law enforcement records indicate Gray has previous arrests for investigation of DUI, weapons offenses, simple assault and aggravated assault.
