2 are charged in gambling, drugs case
MURRAY — Two patrons of a cyber cafe, who were arrested earlier this year by police for being involved in an alleged gambling operation, were charged Friday in 3rd District Court.
Robert Simmons and Pamela Nieto were charged with gambling, a class B misdemeanor; felony drug distribution; and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
Both defendants were at the Fortune Cyber Cafe, 625 W. 5300 South, on Aug. 30 when investigators served a search warrant.
Simmons was observed playing a gambling video game and was in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, according to state court records.
Nieto was found gambling on video keno, court documents state, and also was in possession of a small amount of marijuana and methamphetamine.
The raid on the cyber cafe by Murray Police resulted in arrests or citations to six employees and more than 45 patrons.
Patrons would put money onto a card and then swipe it through a machine connected to a computer and gamble on games such as keno, slots or poker over the Internet, police said.
Charges against the cafe owners were still pending Friday.
