Lee Benson's column on the late Michael Goldsmith (Nov. 6) captured perfectly the essence of this tremendous professor and fine man.

As one of Professor Goldsmith's former students, I still reflect often on his plea at the end of each class that we be "can do" lawyers and citizens.

When Professor Goldsmith told you of the positive influence that one person can have in society, he said so with ultimate credibility. You believed him.

His example and passion have inspired me for the past 16 years of my professional career and provide daily courage in my fight to improve our communities through quality public education.
