Don't boost food tax
I was very disappointed to see Rep. Kay McIff propose the sales tax on food be doubled during the coming legislative session. Increasing the tax on this basic life necessity penalizes families with growing children more than others. It also is an inefficient way to increase revenue.
Utah would get more money by increasing the sales tax on non-food items by 1 percent than by McIff's proposal to double the food tax.
