FOOTBALL: Offensive tackle Zane Beadles has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District first-team, announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
As a first-team selection, Beadles will be placed on the national ballot for Academic All-America honors. Beadles, who was also a first-team All-District pick last season, is a four-year starter for the Utes. He has made the all-Mountain West Conference team twice, earning first-team honors in 2008. Beadles is one of 10 finalists for the Lowe's Senior Class Award. He has "won" 436 of his 500 total plays this year for a team-best 87 percent overall grade. He has 14 cuts and eight pancake blocks.
The senior mechanical engineering major holds a 3.535 grade point average and is scheduled to graduate in December. He regularly participates in community service events and is a member of Utah's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Beadles also writes a weekly blog for the Sporting News, in which he shares his experiences as a Division I football player.
Individuals are selected through voting by CoSIDA, a 2,000-member organization consisting of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.
WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Junior opposite hitter Karolina Bartkowiak was named to the 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII First Team, announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
As a first-team selection, Bartkowiak will be placed on the national ballot for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.
Bartkowiak, who is majoring in exercise and sport science, leads Utah and ranks seventh in the Mountain West Conference with 3.00 kills per set. She has led or tied for the team lead in kills 13 times this season. Bartkowiak also ranks 10th in the MWC with a .286 hitting percentage. Bartkowiak was named the Most Valuable Player at the Utah Classic and was a member of the Santa Clara Invitational All-Tournament Team. She has set career single-match highs in kills (22), hitting percentage (.800), aces (2) and digs (23) this year.

To be eligible, student-athletes must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his or her current institution and be nominated by his or her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.
