LAYTON — Police are seeking the public's help to identify a man who they say exposed himself twice to a teenage custodian at Layton High School after spending more than five hours wandering the school's halls.

The man was captured by surveillance cameras entering the school at about noon on Oct. 28, said Layton Police Lt. Quinn Moyes. Cameras picked him up in several areas of the school over the next five hours, Moyes said.

"He goes to the girls' locker room and attempts to go in," he said. "The locker room was locked so he wasn't able to get in."

Then, at about 5:30 p.m., the man approached a 17-year-old custodian mopping the floors on the school's upper level. Moyes said the man exposed himself to the girl, then pulled up his pants and walked away. He returned a second time and flashed the girl again, the lieutenant said.

The girl told several other people about the incident, which was reported the following day to Layton High's school resource officer.

Moyes said it's disturbing that someone could spend that much time inside a school and not be challenged by faculty or staff. "The disheartening thing is we don't have faculty members saying, 'Who are you, and what are you doing here?' "

But Davis School District spokesman Chris Williams said students and employees always are encouraged to report anything or anyone out of the ordinary.

"Our schools aren't set up like armed camps," Williams said. "People can enter and exit the buildings."

Williams said unless all the school doors are continuously locked "there is always that potential (of an intruder) regardless of who is in the building."

The man police are seeking is described as a white male in his 20s. He is 6 feet tall and weighs about 170 pounds with light brown or blond hair. Moyes said the man was seen on video driving away from the school in a silver four-door sedan.

Anyone with information about the man should call the Layton Police Department at 801-497-8300.
