High school football: Felt's Facts Week 12
Somehow or other, the Week 11 edition of Felt's Facts didn't make it online, so apologies to those who were waiting with breathless anticipation. This week includes some updated excerpts from Week 11 along with a lot of new information.
State Records Broken
(1) Alex Hart passed for 4,442 yards this season to set a Utah record. He efficiently directed Jordan's no-huddle, hurry-up offense through 12 games this year and originally broke the record by just three yards in the Beetdiggers' region playoff game against Brighton on Oct. 27 (4,044 yards). He boosted the mark to 4,442 in Jordan's first-round loss at Bingham. Logan's Riley Nelson passed for 4,041 yards four years ago, but it took him 14 games.
(2) Hart got another state mark by averaging 370.17 passing yards per game smashing the old record held by Christian Stewart of Timpanogos who averaged 319.8 yards per game in 2007.
(3) Alex set a third season record with 317 season completions. He broke the record in the second Brighton game when he upped his season total to 288 completions. Nelson also held that record, 277, set in '05.
(4) Hart established a fourth record by throwing 51 times against Bingham to bring his season attempts total to 490. Logan's Tyler Stevens briefly held that record: In Week 10, Stevens attempted 54 passes raising his season total to 474. That eclipsed the record of 437 held by North Sevier's Tyler Torgerson (2005). Stevens also became just the 19th QB to pass for more than 3,000 yards in a season and ranks 17th with 3,073.
(5) West Jordan's C.J. O'Neal set yet another state record with 100 season receptions.
Going into the first round, he and Jordan's Braden Hammond shared the record of 90 for a few days after O'Neal hauled in eight against Kearns in Week 10 and Hammond caught 13 passes in his two games against Brighton. That vaulted them over Fremont's Austin Raught who had 86 season receptions in 2004. Last week, O'Neal snared 10 passes in the loss to Lone Peak while Hammond grabbed five catches against Bingham to total 95 for the year.
For Jordan fans, there's more on Hart and Hammond later on, and for all fans, I'll recap all the records that have been set this year at the end of the season. But now its…
