Lieberman to coach NBADL team in Texas
DALLAS — Nancy Lieberman is set to become the first female head coach of an NBA Development League team.
A news conference is scheduled for today to introduce Lieberman as the first coach of the team that will begin play during the 2010-11 season in Frisco, a suburb about a half-hour north of downtown Dallas.
A press release sent out Wednesday by the Dallas Mavericks, which will be an affiliate of the Frisco team, touted the pending announcement of "historic additions" to the new D-League franchise. Among the participants listed for the news conference is "Head Coach Nancy Lieberman."
Thomas loses collegiate coaching debut
MIAMI — Isiah Thomas lost his coaching debut at Florida International on Wednesday night when Northwood, an NAIA school coached By Rollie Massimino, beat the Panthers 71-61 in an exhibition game.
Thomas, the Basketball Hall of Famer and most recently coach of the New York Knicks, faced Massimino, who coached Villanova to the 1985 NCAA title and is entering his fourth season at the West Palm Beach, Fla. school.
Flames come back to beat Stars on ice
DALLAS — Jarome Iginla scored on a power play at 1:25 of overtime to give the Calgary Flames a 3-2 comeback victory over the Dallas Stars on Wednesday night.
