I was disheartened at Colleen Tidwell's calloused misunderstanding of the purpose and goals of feminism (Readers' Forum, Nov. 2). In her efforts to avoid a word that has become in many instances demonized, she shelves a whole slew of issues that cannot be forgotten and must be rectified.
As long as women make 77 cents for every dollar a man in the same job makes, there is an ardent need for feminism.
As long as our society continues to blame victims of rape and sexual assault for frivolous reasons, there is an ardent need for feminism.
As long as women continue to be underrepresented, brushed to the side and ignored from business, politics and all other aspects of society worldwide, there is an ardent need for feminism.
