Duchesne District bond fails; Davis District's passes easily
While vote tallies for Granite School District's bond election were finalized Tuesday night, complete numbers weren't available on the bond elections for Davis and Duchesne school districts by press time.
Duchesne School District's $49 million bond failed with 1,175 votes for and 1,699 votes against, district officials said Wednesday morning.
Davis District's $250 million bond passed with 23,038 votes for and 13,780 against. The district plans to construct three new schools, rebuild one school and add classrooms at several schools.
Granite District votes were in earlier Tuesday. The district's $256 million bond passed by 18,204 to 13,282 votes. The district will put air conditioning in the remaining 60 percent of its schools, rebuild five schools and construct three new schools.
Granite and Davis District residents will see no increase in property taxes with the bond referendums because the two districts have paid off old bond debt.
Duchesne district's bond would have meant a tax increase of $65 annually for a $113,000 home. Because the bond didn't pass, taxes will go down $103 between now and 2021, when the existing bond is paid off. District officials wanted to build an additional elementary school and replace two high schools.
