Utah Utes campus briefs
WOMEN'S SOCCER: Four Utah soccer players have been named to the 2009 All-Mountain West Conference first and second teams, as voted on by the league's coaches. The teams were announced at the MWC Tournament banquet in Provo on Tuesday.
Headlining Utah's selections was senior midfielder Kelly Isleib, who becomes just the third Ute ever to be named a four-time all-MWC selection. She was a second-team honoree as a freshman while earning co-Freshman of the Year accolades, then was named to the first team the last three years. Isleib leads the team in points (19), is tied for the lead in goals scored (7) and game-winning goals (3), and is second in assists (5). In league play, she scored three goals, including two game-winners, and posted two assists for eight points. Isleib leaves Utah as the all-time leader in assists, currently with 28.
Joining Isleib on the all-MWC first team was sophomore defender Lauren Porter and sophomore forward Erin Dalley.
Porter earns her second straight all-MWC award after being named a second-team choice last year. A physical, tough defender, she brings one of the best heading presences in the MWC on both the defensive and offensive side of the ball. Dalley earns her first-ever all-conference selection. She is tied with Isleib overall for the team lead in goals scored (7), and game-winning goals (3). In conference play, Dalley tied for top honors in the league in both goals scored (4) and game-winners (2). She tied Isleib for the team-lead in points (8), ranking third in the league.
Junior forward Lauren Hair was made a second-team all-MWC selection for the second straight year. Hair scored three goals and had a team-high six assists this year, tying for third on the squad with 12 points. In conference play, she scored once and posted two assists.
